Color, light and expressed energy are all found in Susan’s work. Surface movement, textures and plays on color dominate. Susan’s work is often described as “bold”, “vibrant” and “happy”. Her focus is on glowing colors woven as tapestries in her impressionist still lifes, florals, landscapes and reflective glass. Susan’s travel memories often find themselves on her canvas.
Susan works in watercolor, pastel and oil. A resident of the Salisbury area of Midlothian, Susan has loved art since she was a child. After her son Taylor (now 34) was born, she started working more seriously in watercolors. Pastels were added to her medium palette a few years later, and oils followed 2007.
Susan is a life-long student of art, having taken classes at the Virginia Museum, Nimrod Hall Art and workshops offered across the country.
Susan has traveled to San Michel Allende, Mexico for painting, as well as to Florence, Italy and most recently to Provence, France. Most summers, Susan spends a week or two in Bath County, Virginia at Nimrod, an artist camp in the mountains. Some of Susan’s favorite artists include female masters Janet Fish, Nell Blaine, Mary Cassatt as well as many of The Impressionists. As a member of the Bon Air Artists Association (BAAA), Susan participates in many local shows. In September of 2020, she was awarded first prize in the BAAA member show at Crossroads Art Center.
